Skip Ahoy by Thorunn ArnadottirMAKERS
Þórunn Árnadóttir learned basic net-making skills from net-making company Egersund Island in Eskifjörður. Working alongside the Egersund team, Þórunn used the same materials and techniques but on much smaller scale to create the Skip Ahoy collection. The collection has a theme of ‘playtime’ and features skipping ropes, hula hoops, bags and key-chains made from the hard wearing net material in a variety of colours.
Þórunn Árnadóttirs rope Skip Ahoy concept for Designs from Nowhere build on the ideologies of MAKE; to explore the possibilities for small-scale design and production in East Iceland, using locally sourced materials and skills. The idea was developed during workshops that took place along the remote Icelandic coastline, in collaboration with local practitioners in Egilsstaðir, Djúpivogur, Eskifjörður and Norðfjörður.
